LANCE JACKSON - ARTIST STATEMENT:
I begin with a field sketch or idea sketch that captures a moment – a sense of
what I see and mostly imagine. I render the obvious and the implied visual
relationships with pastel, which is the most paint like of portable media. Then
I enlarge, exaggerate and translate to canvas. There is more… more layers,
more paint, more interpretation and more transitions. Underpaintings,
glazes, and a variety of mixed media capture the dimensional life that
unfolds, that when successful, is exposed as if it was always there, waiting
to be uncovered.
